The banning of the sale of digital products on eBay has led to many online marketers abandoning the use of eBay as one of their revenue streams. Changes of terms and conditions, and ever increasing fee charges, have had a similar effect too. Still, flexible marketers are finding that, by adapting their approach, eBay still represents opportunities for making money online.
Smart sellers found that while the direct sale of digital products was no longer possible, there is a way to work around it. What they did was to put one or more digital products on a CD or DVD and physically ship it out to customers. In addition to having gotten around the ban on digital products, sellers were able to capitalize on the fact that physical products have a greater perceived value than digital products.
Taking this approach need not be a lot of hassle either, as you can use a fulfillment company to package, label and ship every CD and DVD that you sell. These companies will basically package your CD or DVD up with a cover that you provide, and they’ll ship it out to your customers for a flat fee. The extra cost that using a fulfillment company costs can be covered by selling each product for an extra few dollars.
If you want to get creative, you could add bonuses or upsells onto the disc that your customers are getting. Just think how much more a trust a customer will have in you when they receive their purchase and find that you have included a previously unannounced bonus with it. They will then be much more likely to follow the links through to your website or squeeze page that you have included and will likely to turn into a long term buying customer.
An alternative approach to making money on eBay is through dropshipping. It works like affiliate marketing in that rather than selling products that you physically stock, you instead sell products that belong to someone else. Having decided upon which of the many dropshipping companies to use, the rest of the process is easy to follow through. All you need to do is create a listing on eBay for one of the dropshipper’s products and wait for it to sell. Once it does, you’ll need to submit the order to the dropshipper. The great thing about this business model is that it doesn’t cost you any money out of your pocket. You only pay the dropshipping company’s cut out of the proceeds of the sale.
You can virtually sell anything through a dropshipping company on eBay. From the latest high end gadgets, to fitness equipment, to cell phone accessories, you will be sure to find a number of products that the market is desperate to buy. Conduct a little research before you choose your products to sell though, and try to find ones that offer both good profit margins and low competition (i.e. with not many competing eBay sellers).
